This monstrous, two-story structure glows like a neon beacon across the Strip, but the bold exterior underscores the simplicity of the interior. Dark cavernous corners, bare, black walls and sticky floors give it a dive bar ambience, despite the trendy location. Rock fans of all ages gather on the dance floor to absorb everything from green alt rockers to heavy metal heroes. Patrons can meander upstairs for a seat or a better stage view, but the sound system encompasses most of the second floor. This establishment's legendary past still resonates from the bathroom walls where Jim Morrison wrote his poetry. The younger crowd filters in and out to support their favorite acts or to check out up-and-comers. An older crowd reliving the club's heyday arrives later in the evening. Anyone can pay to play the venue or rent the space for the evening, which lures bands of all sizes and talent levels. The bar won't serve anything in glass, so stick to beer and simple drinks. This isn't the place if you're in the mood for the perfect martini.

No New Posts VIRGIN MEGASTORE ,

This store is the final word on music and other multimedia items like movies, DVDs and computer games. Whatever type of music you are looking for this shop is sure to have it. Classical, rock, hip-hop, soul, international, Latin, it's all under one roof. Owned by media mogul Richard Branson, this place is enormous, just like everything else Branson creates, from his airline to his line of cola. This megastore is a site of frequent in-store concerts.

No New Posts THE ROXY THEATRE ,

The club itself has the potential to be intimate, but the acts that play this legendary spot in Hollywood are far too colorful to keep things quiet--especially not with one of the best sound systems on the Sunset Strip. Floor-level and raised standing area (with some occasional seats), a spacious dance floor/mosh pit, and a bar loaded for beer all add up to an authentic Hollywood experience. Eclectic to the max.

No New Posts RAINBOW BAR AND GRILL ,

It's been around since 1972, but the Rainbow definitely had its heyday in the '80s--and never let go. Gold records, guitars, photos and autographs from the likes of Lita Ford, Poison, Van Halen and other metal gods adorn the walls. And these rockers will always have a place at Rainbow, down to Slash's corner table and Lemmy from Motorhead's favorite Ms. Pac Man game at the bar. For some real '80s mullet action, head upstairs to the nautical-themed bar with a dance floor.

No New Posts VIPER ROOM ,

Small, dark and ultrahip, the Viper Room pulls in Hollywood locals, celebrities and tourists looking to hear live tunes, dance to DJ-spun beats or grab a drink. With only a few (typically reserved) black-vinyl booths lining the walls, the venue is generally standing room only. When not restricted to VIPs, the small downstairs lounge is relaxing, boasting plush seats and TVs simulcasting the upstairs action. This Sunset Strip haunt has become gradually more famous for its music and surprise celebrity appearances than for the shenanigans of young stars (typified most tragically by River Phoenix's death on the sidewalk outside the club in 1993). The small upstairs bar lends itself easily to intimate rock shows, which are especially memorable when the likes of Tom Petty, Pearl Jam and Iggy Pop decide to stop by and jam.

SUNSET STRIP ,
The Sunset Strip is the name given to the mile and a half stretch of Sunset Boulevard that passes through West Hollywood, California. It extends from West Hollywood's eastern border with Hollywood at Marmont Lane, to its western border with Beverly Hills at Phyllis street. The Strip is probably the best known portion of Sunset, embracing a premier collection of boutiques, restaurants, rock clubs, and nightclubs that are on the cutting edge of the entertainment industry. It is also known for its trademark array of huge, colorful billboards.
